Overview

Responsible for properly performing all financial activities related to the General Ledger Accounting Department, in accordance with established policies, procedures and controls.

Contribute to a safe work environment, through compliance with established safety guidelines, identifying potential safety hazards, and reporting same to the appropriate person for proper resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciles all balance sheet accounts in a timely, effective manner.
  • Prepare journal entries, worksheets, reconciliation and other documentation to ensure that transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of assigned cash accounts for internal and external auditors.
  • Review transactions and make recommendations for accruals and deferrals.
  • Enters journal entries into accounting software (after approval) as required.
  • Prepares monthly financial analysis of assigned balance sheet accounts for General Ledger Supervisor.
  • Assists in issuance of internal financial reports.
  • Maintains the highest degree of confidentiality.
  • Leads by setting a positive example to all Associates.
  • Responsible for maintaining a consistent, regular attendance record.

AGE and GAMING:

21 years of age or above

Gaming property – Must be able to obtain and maintain a gaming license issued by the Choctaw Gaming Commission.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED is required.  Bachelor’s degree accounting or finance or related field is required.  Associate’s degree in the field of accounting with a minimum of three (3) years of previously related experience using an automated General Ledger systems or similar type accounting experience may be accepted in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree.  One (1) year of previous public accounting experience or one year in a similar accounting role is preferred.

 

TESTING:

Must be able to type a minimum of 45 WPM with 85% accuracy, 10-Key a minimum of 8000 KPH with 95% accuracy, achieve a score of 70% or better within 20 minutes on the Excel test, achieve a passing score on accounting test administered during interview.  Must take the required testing identified for this position

 

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.  Must be extremely numbers-oriented and computer-literate, with superior spreadsheet skills.   Must successfully learn the Pearl River Resort’s automated General Ledger System and Inventory Control/Purchasing System within 90 days of employment

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to comprehend basic instructions furnished in oral, written or diagram form. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense reasoning to a variety of situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

Essential responsibilities include moderate physical ability such as lift or maneuver at least forty (40) pounds, and sit and talk for extended periods in excess of 4 hours.  Must be able to walk or stand for 50% of the assign shift.  Excess use of a computer, monitor and calculator is probable and possible eye strain may be encountered.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an Associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  When on the casino floor, the noise level increases to loud.  When on the casino floor or other designated areas may be subjected to tobacco smoke. 

 

Due to the unpredictable nature of the hospitality/entertainment industry, Associates must be able to work varying-schedules to reflect the business needs of the property.
